Knitologie Bouncy yarn makes a wonderful hat cowl

I received my July KnitCrate kit and was thrilled to see two scrumptious skeins of Knitologie Bouncy – a worsted weight yarn that just begged me to make a hat cowl. I know it’s August, and in Texas, that means it’s incredibly hot outside, but knitting a hat cowl just makes me happy.

I’m looking forward to cooler weather when I can don this baby outside with a jacket or inside if I need a little extra warmth. More than likely I will wear it around my neck most of the time, but I do like the ability to cinch up the top and voila make an instant hat for my head!

As Knitologie Bouncy yarn was a little thicker than what I used for my original Free Knitted Hat Cowl Pattern, I chose to just swap out the needle size and didn’t make any changes to the pattern itself. I went up 2 sizes – from a size 8 to a 10 for the very first cast-on row and a size 6 to an 8 for the rest of the piece.

Pattern: Download the Free Hat Cowl Pattern #2 and go up 2 needle sizes. So I went from a size 8 US to a 10 US for the very first cast-on row and a size 6 US to an 8 US for the rest of the piece.

Finished Size: 10″ x 10″

Needles: Size 10 US and 8 US double-pointed knitting needles

Gauge: 18 stitches and 24 rows with size 8 US needles make a 4×4″ square.

Notions: 2 Cordstoppers, darning needle, and scissors

Yarn:  1 Hank of Knitologie “Bouncy” Yarn (or other Worsted Weight yarn)

My July KnitCrate kit came with 2 skeins of Bouncy and 2 pattern options, but I went rogue and decided to use the yarn for my own design 🙂

I love the feel and warmth of this yarn, as well as the pattern it creates when knit in a straight stockinette stitch.  As you see below, this piece used less than 1 hank which means I can make another one! Yay!

Content: 100% Superwash Merino
Weight: Worsted/ 100 g (4 oz) grams in each skein
Length: 180 yards in each skein
Suggested Needle/Hook Size: US 8 – 10 or 5 – 6mm / 5mm (H) – 6mm (J)
