We are thrilled to celebrate one of our own Fibernauts, Jared Burgoon (he/they), whose knitting has been winning hearts and ribbons this fall!
Jared entered both the South Plains Fair here in Lubbock and the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. His work stood out in every arena:
Best in Show for Knitting – South Plains Fair
First Place ribbon and an Honorable Mention at the South Plains Fair
First Place – Knitting / Scarf category – State Fair of Texas
Second Place – Shawl/Stole category – State Fair of Texas
Jared’s passion lies in shawls, scarves, and beanies, with a special love for bold, playful color combinations inspired by designers like Stephen West (westknits.com). His knitting is intentional, precise, and full of joy.
We are so lucky to have Jared on board at The Yarny Way, sharing that same joy with new knitters. Starting this fall, he’s teaching our Beginner Knitting Series—a four-week journey designed to give absolute beginners confidence with needles and yarn. His classes are full of patience, encouragement, and laughter—perfect for anyone curious about picking up the craft.
“Knitting quickly became my favorite way to slow down, focus, and stay grounded—especially during busy days at work.” – Jared
When Jared isn’t knitting or teaching at The Yarny Way, he’s serving as the Program Coordinator at the Burkhart Transition Academy at Texas Tech, helping young adults with autism prepare for meaningful futures. He also volunteers his time with local organizations, teaches puppy classes with SPOTC, and advises TTU’s Yellow Caped Raiders service puppy raising student group.
Community, creativity, and kindness are woven into everything Jared does—and we couldn’t imagine a better guide for our Fibernauts.
