There’s something timeless about a beret. Chic. Simple. Always in style. I’ve knit the Salut Cheri Beret by LunaKnit more times than I can count, but this latest version? Absolute perfection.
Why? The yarn.
I used 100% Mongolian Cashmere DK from Lotus Yarns—and oh my goodness, what a difference it makes. I’ve made this pattern before using acrylic blends and wool yarns, but this version is a whole other level of soft, warm, and wearable. The drape is delicious, the feel is buttery, and the finished piece has a gorgeous, subtle halo.
Notes on the Knitted Beret
- Pattern: Salut Cheri Beret by LunaKnit
- Yarn: Lotus Yarns Mongolian Cashmere DK, approx. 45g used
- Needles: US 4 (for ribbing), US 6 (for body)
- Mods: None—followed the pattern exactly, despite the yarn being lighter than the called-for worsted.
- Blocked: Soaked and stretched over a dinner plate for 24 hours
Despite using DK instead of worsted, the fit came out beautifully. I was slightly worried it might be too snug, but after blocking, it fit like a charm—and even looked great on my spouse (who has quite the noggin).
This might just be my forever beret. It’s warm without being heavy, refined without being fussy. I highly recommend giving this pattern a try, especially if you’re ready to treat yourself (or someone special) to a truly luxurious accessory.
