A colorful new addition to the Sock Sector
A yarn I’ve been wanting to bring into the shop for a long time has finally landed at The Yarny Way — Schoppel® Zauberball Crazy.
We just received a full batch of colorways, and if you enjoy self-striping yarn, long color repeats, or projects where the yarn does the design work for you, this one is going to be fun.
I only have one color of the original Zauberball® for now, but a full range of Zauberball® Crazy colors are here — and I’m hoping this becomes a regular staple in the Sock Sector.
Zauberball Crazy is made by Schoppel Wolle, a German yarn company known for inventive color and durable sock yarns.
Unlike the original Zauberball, the Crazy version is made by dyeing two strands separately and then twisting them together. This creates a marled, shifting effect that produces bold stripes and unexpected color transitions as you knit.
Each skein has over 450 yards of fingering-weight yarn, making it perfect for:

A yarn with real transparency behind it
One of the reasons I wanted to carry Schoppel is their commitment to being open about how their yarns are made.
Many of their yarns use virgin wool from Patagonia with certified origin, meaning the fiber can be traced back to the farms where it was produced. Their spinning and dyeing partners follow strict European environmental and quality standards, including certifications such as OEKO-TEX® and other recognized textile standards.
Their sock yarns also use a biodegradable polyamide fiber instead of standard nylon. This gives the yarn the strength needed for socks, while allowing the synthetic portion to break down naturally over time instead of lasting for decades.
It’s a thoughtful balance of durability, creativity, and responsible production — and that fits very well with the yarns I want to keep on the shelves here.
Zauberball Crazy joins the Sock Sector lineup alongside Opal and other sturdy, colorful yarns made for projects that get worn and loved.
These are the yarns you reach for when you want something interesting to knit, but also something that will last.
