While makers loved Katrinkles’ original niddy noddy for creating mini skeins, this redesigned version gives you more options. Crafted from sturdy ¼” birch, the Adjustable Niddy Noddy by Katrinkles allows you to wind full-size two-yard skeins or assemble it to create one-yard skeins, depending on your project needs.

Despite its larger capacity, this niddy noddy remains lightweight and highly portable. Its press-fit construction holds securely during use, then easily collapses flat into four pieces for compact storage—perfect for travel, workshops, or guild meetings.

To make things even easier, pictogram assembly and use instructions are engraved directly on the tool, so help is always at hand. It comes packaged in a sturdy recycled paper sleeve, printed in Rhode Island and strong enough for long-term storage.

This tool is designed for winding yarn directly from a drop spindle or spinning wheel bobbin into a tidy skein, ready for washing, dyeing, or storage. As with all Katrinkles tools, each piece showcases the natural beauty of the wood, making every niddy noddy subtly unique.

Assembly & Use

To assemble, hold one piece of the niddy noddy in each hand and align the slots. The two ends will sit perpendicular to each other, with the long sections forming the center shaft as they slide together. Hold the tool at the center while winding.

Secure the yarn by wrapping the loose end around the top left arm a few times, trapping the tail beneath your working yarn. Wind by crossing down and under the right arm, back up and over the left arm, then down under the lower right arm, repeating until finished. Weave in loose ends to prevent tangling, slide the skein off, then twist and tuck to finish your skein.
