Hi, I’m Marni Reecer—maker, strategist, and founder of The Yarny Way. I’ve always had a thing for yarn and a love for building things that last. What started as a personal crafting blog years ago has evolved into a full-on fiber adventure, combining my passion for handmade goods with my background in digital strategy.
I design, knit, crochet, write patterns, and sometimes invent looms when I can’t find what I need. My creative style leans simple, functional, and inclusive. I believe the process of making should be joyful, accessible, and deeply personal. Whether you’re brand-new to fiber arts or have yarn stashed in every drawer, there’s a place for you here.
Before launching The Yarny Way, I ran a digital marketing agency, ReecerMedia.com That experience shapes how I build this brand—thoughtfully, with a focus on community, quality, and kind vibes. I’m always asking how I can make things easier, more fun, or more meaningful for fellow makers. That’s what fuels everything I offer.
I’m a late-diagnosed autistic, a gramma, dog mom, cat mom, music lover, and lifelong learner with a master’s degree in German. I’m married to a creative and kind person who keeps me laughing and grounded, a musician and artist, Chris Reecer (chrisreecer.com). My creative world is big, sometimes messy, and always growing. The Yarny Way is my way of sharing it with you.
Warm stitches and kind vibes, Marni
From Made by Marni to The Yarny Way: A New Chapter
In 2013, I started my blog, marnimadeit.com, as a way to share my love of making things. Over the years, it became a space to document my knitting, crochet, and creative journey. But life, as it does, took me on a bit of a detour. From 2022-2024, I pursued and obtained my master’s degree in German at Texas Tech University—an incredible experience that helped me grow personally and professionally.
Now, I’m thrilled to say I’m back and diving back into the yarn-loving community. And I’m doing so with a fresh perspective, a new brand and a new local yarn store in Lubbock–– The Yarny Way.
Why the Change?
For those who’ve followed my journey, you know that my mantra has always been: “A beautiful thing is never perfect.” I believe in embracing our perfectly imperfect selves and celebrating the joy of creating. Making things, for me, isn’t just about making something tangible; it’s about expressing inner beauty and finding peace in the chaos of life. It’s a therapeutic retreat—a way to slow down, focus, and connect with something meaningful.
The new name, The Yarny Way, reflects this philosophy and my vision for the future. It’s more than just a blog. It’s a space (or, should I say, a “yarniverse”) where crafters of all backgrounds and skill levels can come together to share inspiration, kindness, and creativity.
A Personal Journey
I’ve always been a maker. As a kid, I devoured every type of sewing and needlework I could get my hands on. At 14, I taught myself to knit (which, let me tell you, was not a typical teenage hobby in the ’80s). By 18, while spending time in Germany, I learned to knit continental style, and my passion for yarn crafts only deepened from there. Crochet came into my life in my mid-twenties, adding another layer to my creative repertoire.
Knitting, crocheting, and now pin loom weaving have become more than hobbies; they’re my way of finding peace. As someone who discovered later in life that I’m autistic, I now recognize how much crafting has always been a calming and covert “stim” for me. It’s not my only stim of course, but it is one for sure. The rhythm of needles clicking, the textures of yarn slipping through my fingers, and the vibrant colors all come together to create a sense of serenity. It’s a feeling I want to share with others, autistic and allistic. Yarn is for everyone. 😀
Marni’s Blog
As I revisit the blogging world, I’m excited to share not only my own free patterns but also reviews and links to patterns I’ve tried and loved. I’ll be posting stories about my creative journey, my favorite yarns, and the tools that make crafting even more enjoyable. You’ll find me on Bluesky and Substack to connect with more makers of all generations across the globe.
At the heart of The Yarny Way is a commitment to building a kind, inclusive community. It’s about creating a space where everyone feels welcome to share their projects, successes, and even their beautiful imperfections. Together, we’ll celebrate the art of making and the joy it brings.
