May marks a thoughtful shift at The Yarny Way. As the shop grows, the focus is becoming clearer: a place to learn, build skills, and enjoy making. This month brings a more intentional schedule, with space for both beginners and experienced makers to grow.
What’s Changing (and Why)
We’re moving away from open stitching and focusing on structured sessions.
That means:
- Fridays → Private lessons & workshops (by appointment)
- Sundays → Skill Sessions (focused, hands-on learning)
- Wednesdays → Guided Knit-Along
- Saturdays → Dedicated knitting instruction
The goal is simple: create a space where anyone can walk in and feel comfortable, supported, and inspired.

Sunday Skill Sessions
Sundays are dedicated to focused, practical learning. Each session is designed to help you build a specific skill you can use right away—no fluff, no overwhelm.
May 3: Knitting on DPNs
May 10: Colorful Granny Squares (Mother’s Day—tea & cookies for moms in the front of the shop)
May 17: No class
May 24: Wrap & Turn Short Rows (Pincha Shawl)
Each session is focused, practical, and designed to move you forward.
May 3: Knitting on DPNs

Curious about double-pointed needles but not sure where to start? This class breaks it down in a way that actually feels manageable. You’ll learn how to knit in the round using larger DPNs and DK or worsted weight yarn—so you can focus on the technique without the stress. We’ll start a simple tube that can be worn as a cowl or cinched into a hat, while covering setup, stitch management, and how to avoid gaps. A great next step if you’re comfortable with basic knitting and ready to try something new.
May 10: Colorful Granny Squares (Mother’s Day)
Bring a little color into your crochet. In this workshop, you’ll learn how to create flower-style granny squares—perfect for building toward a larger project like a bag. We’ll cover working in the round, color changes, and how to keep your squares neat and even. You’ll leave with a finished motif and the skills to keep going.

Mother’s Day Note:
We’ll be offering complimentary tea and cookies for moms in the front of the shop, courtesy of Tea2Go.
May 17: No Class
May 24: Wrap & Turn Short Rows (Pincha Shawl)
Ready to learn short rows in a way that makes sense? This session focuses on wrap and turn short rows using the beautiful Pincha Shawl pattern. You’ll start with a short demo, then work step by step through casting on and beginning your project.

This lightweight shawl is perfect for summer knitting and works especially well with fingering or sport weight yarn. Jared’s sample is on display in the shop—it’s worth seeing in person.
Fridays: Private Instruction with Marni
Fridays are now reserved for:
- One-on-one knitting or crochet help
- Project troubleshooting
- Private workshops
By appointment only – Book online through Calendly. Payment link will be emailed to you prior to your session.
If you’ve been stuck—or just want focused guidance—this is your time.

A Small Shift, With Intention
This change isn’t about doing less—it’s about doing things with purpose.

The Yarny Way is becoming a space where:
- New makers feel comfortable walking in
- Questions are encouraged
- Learning happens naturally
- Creativity has room to grow
